Rain, Rain, go away little Gail wants to play. A little song my grandmother used to sing to me on a rainy day.
It seemed as if a good day was not in the cards today, so we went back to the office and I had a couple of masala chai and another good chat with Mr. Sharma. Then something that made my day happened. I got a call (at the office) from a travel forum friend who lives in Delhi and he was inviting me out for lunch (Kam, no not that one). Of course I gladly, joyously, excitedly said yes. I was to meet him at his club. The driver got me there at the appointed hour and obeyed his orders to call my friend from the gate. He came out to the car to greet and welcome me. What with this, the driver opening the door and giving me a hand out of the car, the magnificent white building with the lovely columns I truly felt like a Princess..........and loved every minute (she said shamelessly).
Turns out that I was very lucky indeed because the club turned out to be the famous Gymkhana Club. When asked what I wanted to drink what could I say but a gin and tonic in this a club from the time of the British Raj. We had a lovely lunch and chat. All I can say is that this would wins hands down over going to the Red Fort any day.
It was only about 3:30, but decided to go back "home" and let Lakhu off early to have time with his friends. Home is a fantastic place with a multitude of stories.
There are only four photos from the Club. I really wanted to take many, but just couldn't let myself behave in such a gauche manner. It was bad enough that I was dressed slightly inappropriately given the dress of both the women and men lunching. This will be one of the highlights of my Delhi time.
